The Port of Vigo experienced a historic day yesterday, September 19, with the simultaneous stop of up to five transatlantic cruise ships on the same day, which means the arrival of up to 15,000 people to the city, including passengers and crew.
The operation was a resounding success, according to the president of the Vigo Port Authority, Carlos Botana, who congratulated all the Port workers and the entire Port Community for their efforts on a day in which, thanks to the coordination of all the actors involved in this traffic and the city, the terminal passed with flying colors.
Carlos Botana himself has been able to personally verify, from the early hours of the morning, that the operation planned beforehand together with the State Security Forces and Corps, Maritime Authority, Maritime Rescue, shipping agents, terminal operators, tour operators, pilots, mooring crews, Port Police, Port Security and Commercial personnel, has been exemplary, guaranteeing the best possible service to the ships, without neglecting the daily port operations, which has also served to demonstrate the Port's response capacity.
After visiting some of the ships docked in the Port, two of them on inaugural calls, the port president, accompanied by the Xunta delegate in Vigo, Ana Ortiz, the vice president of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, Marta Fernández-Tapias, and the director of the Galicia Tourism Agency, José Manuel Merelles, visited the “village” located on the Paseo de las Avenidas, where the three administrations have organized various activities to promote the tourist image of Vigo and celebrate the arrival, for the first time in the history of the Port of Vigo, of up to five passenger cruise ships on the same day.
