The Port of Cartagena begins its peak cruise season in September, providing a significant boost to the city's service sector until November, when an average of more than four cruise ship calls are expected each week.

The city will receive 65 cruise ships between September and November 27, with an estimated 91,000 passengers plus crew.
In September, 19 cruise ships are expected, including three double calls and approximately 32,000 passengers. October will see 22 cruise ship calls, including three double calls and one triple call. Finally, November is expected to bring 24 cruise ships, with a record six double calls and one triple call.
Cartagena is seeking to promote cultural and heritage tourism as one of its key assets for attracting cruise lines. In addition, a wide range of activities are being promoted alongside cultural offerings, such as sports (diving, golf), gastronomy, and adventure activities, to avoid repetition. Historical heritage remains the top choice for tourists, but now activities like ultralight flights, trekking, and caving are being added. The Murcia Region Tourism Institute is proposing 26 different options spread throughout the Autonomous Community.
