This morning, the Port of Cartagena welcomed another double stop, the third of the month, with the ships Aurora and Borealis, carrying more than 3,000 passengers who had the opportunity to enjoy the city from early morning.
At 8 a.m., the first ship arrived, the Aurora cruise ship from the P&O shipping company, coming from Southampton, England, with 2,000 mostly English tourists, who will be in Cartagena until 6 p.m. when the cruise ship will depart for Italy, to the city of Cagliari.
It is the only stop in a Spanish port that the cruise makes on its 20-day Mediterranean itinerary, where it will also stop in Dubrovnik, Zadar, Messina and other ports before returning to Southampton.
The Aurora has 900 cabins and is exclusively for adults. It was refitted in 2014, during which time the ship was the first of the P&O ships to receive an updated design of the Union Jack on its bow and its funnel was repainted from yellow to blue.
At 11:00 AM, the Fred Olsen Cruises Lines Borealis cruise ship docked, arriving from Liverpool with 1,000 passengers, mostly English, who are taking advantage of their stop to explore Cartagena until 5:00 PM when they will begin their journey to the next destination in Livorno, Italy.
The crew consists of 653 people. The Borealis brings a host of new spaces and facilities to the fleet, including a large, two-level theater and main restaurant, a pool with a retractable roof, a large spa and thermal suite, and the new Auditorium, which offers culinary demonstrations and much more. Passengers will also have the opportunity to sample new flavors at the new specialty restaurants: Vasco, which offers a fresh and modern take on Indian cuisine; and Colours & Tastes, which features contemporary Asian fusion dishes.
May is proving to be a great month for cruise tourism in Cartagena with twenty calls and more than 26,000 passengers, with forecasts until the end of the year indicating 150 calls and more than 180,000 passengers.
