Fincantieri has completed the parallel modernization of two cruise ships for Crystal, delivering Crystal Symphony in recent days. The first ship, Crystal Serenity, rejoined the shipowner's fleet on July 20.
The contract was finalized in December 2022, and after an initial engineering phase, the work lasted approximately five months, significantly improving the level of onboard amenities and accommodations. The ships' hotel facilities were completely overhauled, including public areas, suites, and guest rooms, with significant upgrades also made to the systems to extend their operational lifespan. The project concluded with the usual dry-docking procedures in preparation for returning to service.
On each ship, three decks were radically transformed with the installation of over 100 new suites and guest rooms, two, three, and sometimes even four times the size of the previous 230, creating more spacious and luxurious environments thanks to the refined finishes used. Another 100 rooms were completely modernized without changing their size. The casinos were removed to make room for generous lounges.
Environmental sustainability aspects have also been modernized, with particular emphasis on wastewater treatment systems and energy recovery. Finally, the hulls have been treated with special, state-of-the-art eco-silicone paints that reduce friction and fuel consumption.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, stated: “This is one of the most important orders handled at our Arsenale Triestino San Marco. Supporting the relaunch of a brand like Crystal as a technology partner is a very significant achievement.”.
The Crystal Serenity and the Crystal Symphony have a length of almost 240 meters, a gross tonnage of about 51,000 tons, and a maximum capacity that now stands at about 740 and 606 passengers respectively.
