2022 was the first year that MSC Cruises had a embarkation season at the Port of Tarragona, and following the positive response, the number of calls has increased to 26 during the summer of 2023, resulting in more than 75,000 tourists. This figure is expected to increase in 2024, as the MSC Fantasia is a ship with 1,600 cabins.

In addition, the company recently signed an agreement with PortAventura World , giving MSC Magnifica passengers the opportunity to enjoy the resort's three theme parks during their stop in the city. Therefore, with the aforementioned 28 port calls in 2024, the city is expected to welcome approximately 120,000 tourists.

In the words of Fernando Pacheco, CEO of MSC Cruises: “We are proud to continue strengthening our ties with Spanish ports, and in the case of the Port of Tarragona, our commitment to the area has been unwavering from the beginning. We maintain an excellent relationship and constant dialogue with the authorities, with whom we also share the same objectives of promoting the Costa Dorada as the ultimate example of family tourism.

In this regard, the President of the Port Authority, Saül Garreta, commented: “Port of Tarragona welcomes MSC Cruises' commitment to continue working with us. We are very pleased to collaborate with the cruise company with the strongest commitment to decarbonizing the sector and to economic sustainability. These are values and a strategy that both organizations share.”
