The former Costa Mediterranea, belonging to the joint venture CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping, will begin sailing international cruises from Tianjin later this year.
The ship, built in 2003, will be operated as Mediterranea by Adora Cruises after a refurbishment that will include new decor, improvements and adaptations for passengers.
The Mediterranea, weighing 86,000 tons, has capacity for 2,680 passengers in 1,057 cabins and suites.
In January 2020, the Costa Atlantica was transferred to the joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corp. and Carnival Corp. & plc, followed by the Costa Mediterranea. It was inactive during the pandemic.
Meanwhile, construction of the joint venture's first new-build vessel is progressing at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, and the 135,500 gross registered tonnage Adora Magic City will begin sailing from Shanghai in late 2023.
