The Arvia cruise ship, operated by Carnival P&O Cruises, has made its maiden call at the Port of Valencia. Francesca Antonelli, Head of Marketing and Cruises at the Port Authority of Valencia, presented the traditional socarrat—the Valencian terracotta tile with maritime motifs that Valenciaport gives to ships docking for the first time—to the ship's captain, Robert Carmy. Isabel Esparza from the Operations Department of the shipping agent Roca Monzó was also present at the ceremony.
The city of Valencia is a destination for the cruise sector, offering a wide range of activities. The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) is working with the Valencia Provincial Council and Visit Valencia to diversify the tourism offerings for cruise passengers with sustainable experiences in municipalities throughout the province. The goal is to increase the tourism options available to cruise ships calling at the city and, consequently, attract visitors to other areas and locations within the province.
The Arvia cruise ship, built in December 2022, is the second Excel-class vessel from P&O Cruises powered by liquefied natural gas. Measuring 345 meters in length, it has a capacity for over 5,000 passengers and a crew of 1,700. Arvia, arriving from A Coruña, will continue its voyage to Marseille after visiting Valencia.
