The Port of Barcelona accelerates the transfer of passenger activity to the Adossat dock

The Board of Directors of the Port of Barcelona today approved two agreements that will accelerate the transfer of passenger activity to the Adossat Wharf, where all cruise terminals and the Baleària ferry terminal will be concentrated. This relocation of passenger terminals to the electrified Adossat Wharf is one of the points included in the agreement signed in January 2018 between the Port and the Barcelona City Council to improve the integration of the port and the city. It will reduce the impact this sector has on Barcelona and improve the services offered to shipping companies and passengers.

The first agreement approved today is the call for a public tender to award the
construction and operation of the future G cruise terminal at the Adossat dock.

The Board of Directors' agreement approved today specifies that the tender for the new Terminal G will have several conditions, including the incorporation of environmental and sustainability improvements being promoted throughout the Port area, and especially within the cruise sector. In this regard, the future terminal must have onshore power supply (OPS) systems to connect ships to the main power grid when docked. Special consideration will also be given to the terminal project's sustainability, with an environmentally friendly architectural design that minimizes energy consumption; the winning bidder's provision of shared mobility solutions capable of addressing the increased passenger numbers generated by the latest generation of cruise ships; and the use of transitional or green fuels by ships operating in the future terminal that minimize emissions, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), bio-LNG, methanol, ammonia, etc.

The second agreement approved today by the Board of Directors of the Port of Barcelona is the early termination of the concession of the Terminal Marítima Nord, located on the Barcelona dock, and dedicated to cruise passenger traffic.

The North and South Maritime Terminals, with a combined area exceeding 10,000 m2, were previously operated by the company Creuers del Port de Barcelona, SA. The North Maritime Terminal is now being returned to the port, although a space will be maintained as a passenger terminal to serve the few cruise ship calls already confirmed for 2023. It should be noted that there will be no more cruise ships at this facility after 2024.

The Port of Barcelona plans to stop hosting cruise ships at the South Maritime Terminal of the Barcelona dock by 2026 at the latest, thus advancing in the objective of moving cruise activity away from the center of Barcelona.
