The president of the Port Authority of Almería (APA), Jesús Caicedo, met with the president of the Almería Centro Business Association (CCA Almería Centro), Antonio Martín, and the association's manager, Carmen Sánchez. During the meeting, he outlined the initiatives undertaken by the APA and the projects underway to promote cruise ship calls at the Port of Almería. José Cuesta, head of the APA's Commercial and Quality division, also attended.
Among other actions, the president of the Port Authority of Almería (APA) reported on the reduction of fees charged to shipping companies for docking at the Port, as well as the establishment of the Institutional Cruise Committee, together with the Almería City Council, the Provincial Council and the Regional Government's Tourism Delegation. He believes that businesses and shops should also collaborate in this forum, "since commerce has a lot to do with and say about the tourists who visit us on cruise ships and who tour the city to see its monuments, but also to visit shops and restaurants.".
Jesús Caicedo also informed the directors of Almería Centro about the 'Expansion and Adaptation Project of the Levante Dock for cruise traffic and the environmental recovery of the seafront in the Almadrabillas area', a Port-City project, which will be undertaken by the APA together with the City Council, which in addition to expanding the capacity of the Levante dock to accommodate deeper-draft cruise ships, will allow tourists to reach the city center in just a few minutes with a comfortable walk.
The president and manager of the Open Shopping Center Merchants and Business Association welcomed the meeting and expressed their satisfaction with the Port Authority's (APA) commitment to attracting cruise ships to the city. They offered their support to ensure that tourists arriving by ship find businesses open and leave with positive memories of their visit. To this end, the Port Authority, for its part, committed to keeping the association informed of scheduled cruise ship calls at the Port.
