The establishment of international cruise terminals at a single pier was planned in the 2018 agreement between the Port of Barcelona and the City Council, which set a maximum of seven cruise terminals. The world's leading cruise lines will be present at the Port of Barcelona. The latest to confirm is Royal Caribbean, in line with the aim of bringing the port closer to the city, integrating it not only from a leisure perspective but also from the perspective of a sustainable economy.

Calvet took the opportunity to acknowledge the benefits that cruise activity and the fact that Barcelona is a port bring to the city, with the arrival of cruise passengers who contribute an estimated expenditure of 230 euros per person per day, higher than the average tourist expenditure in Barcelona.
