The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) recommended that its members opt to participate, stating in a press release: “The updated guidelines come closer to recognizing the cruise industry’s leadership in effectively mitigating COVID-19, as well as acknowledging the ongoing improvements in the health environment,” the group said in a statement.
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has always been very critical of cruise travel during the pandemic, even though the protocols implemented by the companies have always far exceeded the recommendations of this public health agency and have proven effective in Europe.
