Last Sunday, January 2nd, the Porto Cruise Terminal received the first cruise ship of 2022, thus beginning a year that is expected to be successful.
The AIDAsol, operated by Aida Cruises, arrived at the Porto Cruise Terminal at 12:00 PM from Funchal, where it had been for the New Year's celebrations, with over 1,200 passengers on board, almost all of them German. It departed from Leixões at 6:00 PM, bound for the Belgian port of Zeebrugge.
The AIDAsol is nearing the end of a 43-night Caribbean voyage that began on November 25th in its home port of Hamburg and will conclude in the same German port on January 7th.
Built in 2011 for the prestigious German cruise line AIDA Cruises, it measures 253 meters in length and can accommodate approximately 2,200 passengers.
This is the first of 143 cruise ship calls already scheduled for 2022 at the Port of Leixões, and it is expected that year-end figures will exceed 150,000 passengers visiting Porto and Northern Portugal. After an atypical year, if health conditions allow, the Porto Cruise Terminal will have a record year.
