Norwegian government extends restrictions on cruise ships until May 1

The Norwegian government has extended its restrictions on coastal cruises and will reassess the situation before May 1, 2021.

Norwegian government extends restrictions on cruise ships until May 1

Among the restrictions included is a 50% reduction in capacity for cruises departing from Norway and calling only at Norwegian ports. The maximum number of people on board will be 200, including passengers and crew. The same 200-person limit applies to coastal cruises departing from a foreign port, and passengers will not be permitted to disembark. Only crew members may go ashore for crew changes to return home.

Currently, travel restrictions in Norway do not allow tourists to enter the country. Only Norwegians and foreigners with residency in Norway are permitted to travel there, provided they test negative for COVID-19 within 24 hours of arrival, undergo an additional test upon entry, and quarantine for 10 days.

Companies wishing to operate cruises must submit their health and safety protocols and proof of compliance with current regulations to the Norwegian authorities. Furthermore, cruises are not permitted in Svalbard, with the exception of day trips limited to a maximum of 30 people.
