The Mediterranean and adjacent seas cruise port association, MedCruise, held its 126th session in Tenerife, where it agreed to negotiate with the European Commission the universalization of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the Union's ports and the expansion of port infrastructure to accommodate the new, increasingly larger ships.
Airam Díaz Pastor, president of MedCruise, announced that "we will advocate for the enhancement of ports and the search for funding for their adaptation before the Commissioners for the Environment and Sustainability, as well as the Commissioner for Transport.".
The president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Pedro Suárez, recalled that the port of Tenerife “is a pioneering facility in the supply of liquefied natural gas to cruise ships, as it is the first in Europe in its category to supply this fuel to a cruise ship powered solely by gas.”.
