The Ferrol-San Cibrao Port Authority and Global Ports Holding (GPH) presented the project for the new Ferrol cruise terminal at Seatrade Cruise Med 2026, with operations scheduled to begin in spring 2027.
The president of the Port Authority, José Antonio Álvarez Vidal, highlighted the impact that this new infrastructure will have both on the port and on the region as a whole and thanked Global Ports Holding for its commitment to the project.
On behalf of GPH, its regional director for the Western Mediterranean, Francesc Grau, pointed out that Ferrol represents an important milestone in the company's growth and expansion in Spain and the Atlantic region.
The announcement was made during a joint presentation held at the Puertos del Estado space at Seatrade Cruise Med 2026, one of the main international meetings of the cruise industry, before representatives of different port authorities and professionals of the sector.
Álvarez Vidal emphasized the importance of working with a company like Global Ports Holding and described the agreement as “a strategic alliance and a firm commitment to both the port and the city.” After highlighting the technical characteristics of the docks and the tourist attractions of a region that, he noted, continues to surprise its visitors, the president presented the project for the new terminal, Ferrol Cruise Port, which will transform the facilities and contribute to increasing passenger traffic.
The president of the Port Authority also highlighted the role the infrastructure will play in the transformation of Ferrol and in integrating the port into the relationship between the city and its waterfront. In this regard, he referred to the "Open Ferrol to the Sea" project, currently underway, which includes, among other initiatives, opening the Arsenal, considered one of the city's main historical landmarks, to make it more accessible to the public.
Álvarez Vidal reiterated the importance of the alliance with Global Ports Holding, a company that, in his words, “truly represents excellence in this sector.” He also noted that the new terminal, scheduled for completion in the spring, will allow Ferrol to take “a strategic step forward” in cruise passenger traffic, building on its current position in this segment and with an international partner.
Strengthening Ferrol as a cruise destination
During the presentation, Francesc Grau highlighted the importance of Ferrol within GPH's strategy in the region.
“Ferrol represents an important addition to our Western Mediterranean and Atlantic portfolio, reinforcing our presence in Spain and expanding our reach in the region,” he said.
The executive added that GPH will continue to support the development of the new terminal project and the opportunities it generates for both the port and the destination. “Our goal is to contribute to Ferrol’s long-term growth as a cruise destination, while ensuring that it can benefit from the experience, standards, and connectivity of GPH’s regional network,” he stated.
The Ferrol-San Cibrao Port Authority awarded Global Ports Holding a 30-year concession to build and manage the cruise terminal at the port of Ferrol.
The project will occupy a total area of 960 square meters on the outer pier and will be developed in two phases. The first phase involves the construction of a 480-square-meter terminal, with work scheduled to begin this year. It is expected to be operational during the 2027 cruise season.
With the addition of Ferrol, Global Ports Holding expands its network to 35 ports worldwide, which together receive more than 22 million passengers, reinforcing its presence both in Spain and in the Atlantic area.
