Madrid, January 8, 2019 – MSC Cruises, the world’s largest privately owned Swiss cruise company and leader in Europe, South America, South Africa and the Persian Gulf, together with Chantiers de l’Atlantique , celebrated the float-out ceremony of MSC Grandiosa at the Saint Nazaire shipyard (France), where the ship was built. MSC Grandiosa is now in dry dock where work will continue until its delivery in October 2019.
MSC Grandiosa will become the third Meraviglia-class ship in the MSC Cruises fleet, and the first of three Meraviglia-Plus ships, boasting greater tonnage and passenger capacity than the first two Meraviglia ships – MSC Meraviglia and MSC Bellissima. It will also be the fifth ship to join MSC Cruises in just two and a half years. As part of MSC Cruises' expansion plan, the company will have 12 more new-generation ships by 2017.
MSC Grandiosa will feature an even longer Mediterranean-style promenade, the innovative feature exclusive to the Meraviglia-class ships, which serves as the central meeting point on board. Among its specialty restaurants will be a new bar, L'Atelier Bistrot, with a lounge featuring a dance floor, Impressionist art, and a terrace with Parisian tables and chairs. This award-winning promenade will host surprise shows, including flash mobs and themed parties, as well as stunning projections on the 98.5-meter-long overhead LED screen.
Like the other Meraviglia-class ships, MSC Grandiosa will feature two new and exclusive Cirque du Soleil at Sea shows. This new addition is part of a long-term agreement between MSC Cruises and Cirque du Soleil, the world leader in entertainment.
Following the launch of MSC Bellissima in February 2019, MSC Grandiosa will become the second MSC Cruises ship to feature ZOE, the cruise industry's first virtual cruise assistant, as a new MSC for Me service. This service will provide passengers with a new, simple, and stress-free way to receive information typically provided at the Guest Relations desk.
MSC Grandiosa will be delivered to MSC Cruises on October 31 and will begin regular departures from Barcelona on November 18, 2019. Sales for cruises on board MSC Grandiosa are now open.
