The Board of Directors of the Port of Barcelona has approved the tender, for an amount of 4.6 million and a maximum execution period of 12 months, for the urbanization of the spaces adjacent to the new Cruise Terminal E and the adaptation of the Ring Road Section 1 to serve this facility.
The project covers an area of approximately 45,000 square meters and includes the designation of spaces for vehicles and pedestrians. On the north side of the terminal, the development includes a space for bus and taxi services for embarking passengers, while on the south side, the same services (bus and taxi) will be located for disembarking cruise passengers.
The development also includes the construction of a 7,000-square-meter parking lot with approximately 300 spaces. Additionally, the project includes an extra parking area for terminal employees with around 100 spaces. The works will extend the pedestrian walkway shared by the four existing cruise terminals on the Adosado dock, incorporating the same landscaping and tree plantings. A roundabout will also be built to ensure the efficient flow of traffic serving the maritime station.
Terminal E, currently under construction at the Adosado Wharf (next to Terminal D, also known as Palacruceros), will be one of the largest cruise terminals in Europe, with 12,500 square meters of built area. Carnival Corporation (the world's leading cruise operator) is constructing the facility with an investment of €30 million and plans to complete construction in 2018. Carnival Corporation, which currently manages the Palacruceros Terminal, will also manage Terminal E, where it plans to have seven of its ten cruise brands operating.
