MSC Cruises will position its ship MSC Splendida in China in May 2018

MSC Cruises announced today that it will position MSC Splendida, one of the largest and most modern ships in the company's fleet, in China. This follows the announcement of the opening of a new MSC Cruises office in Shanghai and a new management and operations team based there, marking another key step for the company to further enhance its ability to serve the Chinese market.

Built in 2009, and with a displacement of 137,936 tons, the MSC Splendida will be one of the most modern ships operating in the region. It has 1,637 cabins, 76% of which have balconies, and a capacity for 4,363 passengers.

In its new positioning, MSC Splendida will join MSC Lirica, which has been successfully serving the Chinese market since May 2016 and has recently moved its home port to Tianjin to meet the thriving demand in northern China during the winter season.

At a press conference held today in Beijing, Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises, stated: “The positioning of MSC Splendida off the coast of China is a testament to our commitment to serving this key and constantly growing market. In fact, since entering service, MSC Splendida has been the most popular ship for Chinese and other Asian cruise passengers sailing with us.”
