Bristol's port has welcomed its 25,000th passenger in its history at a time when tourist demand in the southwest of the UK has experienced a significant boom.
The port opened its cruise terminal in Avonmouth in 2013, managing to offer trips from Bristol for the first time in 20 years.
It is currently the region that has experienced the greatest growth for cruises, with routes reaching more than 20 destinations worldwide.
Bristol Port Company celebrated the arrival of its 25,000th passenger in grand style. Bernadette Clark was greeted with champagne and flowers as she boarded the MV Astoria. The other passengers were also welcomed at the terminal with banners and decorations to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.
“It was a surprise to be chosen for such a special occasion. I knew it was the Queen’s 90th birthday and thought the cruise terminal had been decorated to celebrate. I didn’t realize it was for me too! I love the comfort of the Bristol Cruise Terminal and I’m delighted and proud to be its 25,000th passenger.”
The port has proven popular with tourists seeking a more convenient way to travel to Southampton or London. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the port's acquisition by the Bristol Port Company.
James Stangroom, director of business development at the Port of Bristol, said: “Bristol Port Company entered the cruise industry in 2013 and we are proud to be embarking our 25,000th passenger.”.
