On November 17, 2022, the cruise ship AIDAcosma made its maiden call at the new Dubai Port Cruise Terminal. To mark the occasion, numerous official representatives from Dubai Ports Authority, Inchcape Shipping, and Dubai Cruise Terminal came aboard for the official plaque unveiling ceremony. Captain Tommy Möller and Managing Director Nicolas Goelen welcomed guests to the official ceremony and a tour of the ship on AIDAcosma.
Together with its local partners, the cruise company has transformed the region into one of the most popular cruise destinations for German vacationers during the winter months. In 2018, Carnival Corporation established a strategic partnership with Shamal Holding with the goal of making Dubai the region's leading maritime tourism hub. Part of the agreement between the two companies included the construction of the Dubai Cruise Terminal, the new main center for Carnival Corporation's passenger transfer and transit operations in the region. Located in the heart of modern Dubai, it is within easy reach of the city's top attractions, including the Burj Al Arab, Ain Dubai, Bluewaters Island, and Palm Jumeirah.
To kick off its inaugural season in the East, AIDAcosma staged an exclusive onboard program reminiscent of an oriental dream from One Thousand and One Nights. On Friday evening, guests were treated to a breathtaking light show from AIDA on the Ain Dubai, broadcast live from the deck. Standing at 260 meters tall, the Ain Dubai is the world's tallest and largest Ferris wheel. On November 19, German DJ ALLE FARBEN brought the latest hits to the stage. The Berlin superstar had previously performed on board as a special act for AIDAcosma's christening and returned to captivate guests with his globally renowned tracks from the Beach Club stage.
The opening event was rounded out, among other things, with sweet treats from AIDA's gourmet godmother, Andrea Schirmaier-Huber, oriental dance workshops led by the popular Tatiana Pérez, and destination-related lectures by Dorine Ali Kahn, who is particularly connected to the Arab continent.
Until mid-April 2023, AIDA Cruises will offer 7-day cruises with AIDAcosma departing from Dubai. Other destinations on these voyages include Abu Dhabi and the captivating Muscat in Oman. For the first time, Sir Ban Yas Island is included on select itineraries, where guests can experience the largest natural island in the United Arab Emirates. The 7-day itineraries also include alternative routes to Bahrain. These 7-day cruises can also depart from Abu Dhabi and can be combined with 14-day cruises.
Guests on the AIDAcosma can expect a wide variety of onboard offerings. The deck spans four decks and offers panoramic ocean views and an infinity pool at the stern of the ship. The Fun Park, with its large indoor playground, and the Boulder Wall offer plenty of variety. The new specialty restaurant Beach House serves light summer fare. The specialty restaurant Mamma Mia offers homemade pasta and fresh Italian cuisine with tableside service, and the Brauhaus features an open-air grill with magnificent ocean views. In addition, the AIDAcosma boasts features also popular on the AIDAnova, such as the Beach Club, the Theatrium with its 360° stage, the television studio, and the spacious Body & Soul Organic Spa. Guests can enjoy culinary delights at 17 restaurants and 23 bars and cafés.
