Hapag-Lloyd Cruises' HANSEATIC spirit successfully completes its first major dry dock maintenance stop

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises ' newest HANSEATIC-class ship has completed its first scheduled dry dock maintenance in Bremerhaven. The public areas of the HANSEATIC spirit, in particular, were meticulously and elegantly renovated following a "nature-inspired" design concept, giving the vessel, which entered service in 2021, a fresh new look.

During this first dry-dock period for the newest of the HANSEATIC-class sister ships, shipyard staff and some of the crew carried out extensive renovation work in the hotel areas. In addition to aesthetic improvements in the spa area, the work included replacing numerous carpets and tiles. The ship's mandatory technical certification, a process required every five years, was also renewed.

Previously, the sister ships HANSEATIC nature (2023) and HANSEATIC inspiration (2024), as well as the EUROPA (2024), also benefited from the professional expertise of the Lloyd shipyard team.

Isolde Susset, Managing Director of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, emphasized: “Hapag-Lloyd Cruises maintains a relationship of trust with the Lloyd shipyards in Bremerhaven. The renovations carried out on board the HANSEATIC spirit demonstrate the professionalism and dedication with which the shipyard team works. We are delighted to present our guests with the renovated relaxation areas.”.

Last Friday, the expedition ship left the Bremerhaven floating dock with a fresh coat of paint to welcome its guests at the Columbuskaje pier before its first cruise following the refurbishment. That same evening, the HANSEATIC spirit departed on an eight-day itinerary with stops in Rotterdam, Scheveningen, Zeebrugge, Texel, Sylt, Heligoland, and Hamburg, where it was scheduled to arrive on June 13, 2026.

A renewed image for the HANSEATIC spirit

From the spa area to the HANSEATIC restaurant, and including numerous new carpets and coverings, virtually no part of the ship was left unrenovated during the ten days in the shipyard.

In the spa area, a new stove was installed in the Finnish sauna, and the artistic decorative mosaics in the showers and steam room were also restored. These improvements contribute to creating a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere where guests can unwind after long days of exploration.

The HANSEATIC Restaurant also received a fresh coat of paint and renewed carpeting. Other areas, such as the French specialty restaurant “l'esprit”, the Observation Lounge, and the reception area, were also fitted with new flooring and now feature a fresh and harmonious color scheme, maintaining a consistent design throughout the ship.

Additionally, certain showers in the cabins and suites of the HANSEATIC spirit were renovated.

Next Saturday, the HANSEATIC spirit will set sail on its ten-day “Wild Scotland” expedition, before beginning its Arctic season.

During the summer, passengers can enjoy unique expeditions to northwest Greenland and the Canadian Arctic, exploring breathtaking icy landscapes. At the end of the summer, the small expedition ship will sail to Western Europe before heading for South Africa.
