The Board of Directors of the Port of Barcelona has approved the awarding of the project for the installation of the Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system in the future G cruise terminal to the company PowerCon A/S, which obtained the best score of the four offers submitted.
The contract, worth 10.4 million euros, has a total duration of five years and includes a period of 22 months for the drafting, construction and implementation of the OPS.
The Danish company, specializing in port electrification systems, will be in charge of a turnkey project that includes the drafting of the construction project and the execution of all associated works: the connection to the medium voltage electrical network that the Port is building between the Port Substation and the Adossat dock; the cable management solution to connect the ships (CMS) and the OPS electrical substation in the terminal itself; the execution of all these works; as well as the connection, disconnection and maintenance service.
The Terminal G Operations Platform (OPS) is integrated within the Nexigen Dock Electrification Plan, a key component of the Port of Barcelona's environmental sustainability strategy. This plan aims to move towards a cleaner and more efficient port model by minimizing polluting emissions and noise generated by ships while in port through connection to the onshore power grid.
In the cruise sector, the Port of Barcelona is progressively deploying OPS systems to the different terminals of the Adossat dock so that all of them are gradually electrified, as the construction of the general electrical infrastructure and the installation of the specific systems in each terminal progress.
The future Terminal G, granted under concession to Royal Caribbean Group through Catalonia Cruise Terminal G, has been conceived from the outset with criteria of energy efficiency and sustainability.
It is scheduled to become operational during 2027 and its electrification will allow operations fully aligned with the climate objectives of the Port of Barcelona and with the most demanding environmental standards of the cruise sector.
