Atlas Ocean Voyages has announced plans for a new expedition ship, the Atlas Adventurer, scheduled to enter service in 2028. The ship will feature hybrid propulsion and an accommodation design consisting exclusively of suites.
The vessel is being developed as a sailing-assisted expedition yacht, combining conventional engines with a three-masted system to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. It will also incorporate dual-fuel engines, battery-supported hybrid propulsion, and ice-sea capability, enabling it to operate in polar regions.
The ship will have a capacity for up to 400 passengers and a crew of 274, and is designed to operate in remote destinations, including polar itineraries. Accommodation will be entirely in suites, with three categories ranging from standard suites with a veranda to penthouse suites and two-bedroom owner's suites.
Atlas Ocean Voyages President and CEO James Rodrigueznoted that the project reflects the company's focus on combining expedition capabilities with evolving travel expectations. “Atlas Adventurer represents a step forward for our brand and for expedition travel,” he stated. “We sought to balance established design principles with operational and environmental considerations.”
The ship is being designed by the Portuguese studio Oitoemponto, with interiors inspired by the traditional design of large ocean liners, adapted to contemporary use.
Reservations are expected to open in June 2026, ahead of its planned debut two years later.
Atlas indicated that this vessel is part of its strategy to expand in the expedition cruise segment, where operators are increasingly opting for smaller ships with less environmental impact.
