Abu Dhabi Ports Group becomes the first partner of the BCN Port Innovation Foundation's RegenPorts program

Abu Dhabi (AD) Ports Group has joined as a new associate member of the BCN Port Innovation Foundation, thus reinforcing its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the maritime and port sector.

With this membership, the business group becomes the first partner to be part of the RegenPorts program, consolidating its position as a pioneering company in supporting an innovative initiative that promotes the regeneration of marine ecosystems, their associated biodiversity and the transformation of ports towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly models.

The official signing ceremony, held in Barcelona, ​​was attended by Ammar Al Shaiba, CEO Maritime & Shipping Cluster of AD Ports Group, and José Alberto Carbonell, president of the BCN Port Innovation Foundation and the Port of Barcelona, ​​both accompanied by their respective teams.

During the meeting, Ammar Al Shaiba expressed his gratitude for "the opportunity to participate in such innovative and high-potential programs as RegenPorts," highlighting the value of collaboration between the two ports to promote a new generation of sustainable projects.

José Alberto Carbonell, president of the BCN Port Innovation Foundation and the Port of Barcelona, ​​stated that “with this addition, AD Ports Group reinforces its commitment to sustainable port innovation and international cooperation, aligned with the objectives of the BCN Port Innovation Foundation to transform the maritime sector into an open, regenerative and collaborative ecosystem.”.

In this regard, the addition of AD Ports Group is part of a progressive process of consolidating the RegenPorts program, which has already attracted the interest of other stakeholders committed to sustainability and environmental regeneration. The BCN Port Innovation Foundation continues working to expand this ecosystem in alignment with the program's values, scientific criteria, and transformative objective.

RegenPorts is an initiative of the BCN Port Innovation Foundation, in collaboration with Nactiva, that transforms ports into more respectful and positive spaces for nature, integrating science, technology and port management to generate verifiable environmental benefits.

The program promotes the creation of new marine habitats that transform the port environment into a more inclusive space for biodiversity, contributing to the improvement of water quality, favoring the adherence of benthic organisms and boosting the natural capture of CO₂, all within a common framework of impact assessment and rigorous scientific monitoring.
