National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions presents an expansion of its Alaska program starting in 2027, reinforcing the company's presence in one of its most sought-after destinations.
To meet strong and growing traveler demand, the company will charter the Greg Mortimer for a three-year period, expanding its capacity to explore more, offer new itineraries and continue building on its pioneering legacy, while the National Geographic Sea Bird and National Geographic Sea Lion prepare for their farewell season in 2026.
“I am incredibly proud of the exceptional, unique, and intimate Alaskan experience our ships and expert expedition team offer. Demand for our Alaskan voyages continues to grow, and I am thrilled that with the addition of a new ship to our Alaskan fleet, we can welcome even more explorers and offer exciting new itineraries to our collection,” said Natalya Leahy, CEO of Lindblad Expeditions.
“We are also deeply grateful to be able to honor the final farewell season of the Sea Bird and Sea Lion in 2026. These beloved ships have been the setting for countless memorable adventures for our guests over many years. We invite travelers to join us for this special farewell season.”
For nearly four decades, National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions has set the standard for expedition travel in Alaska, pioneering small-boat access and offering expertly guided explorations that take guests to the most remote and extraordinary areas of the state's wilderness. The addition of the Greg Mortimer allows the company to build on this strong foundation, continue innovating, explore further, and respond to guests who consistently request expanded ways to experience Alaska with the unparalleled Lindblad expertise.
Designed specifically for remote environments, the Greg Mortimer brings capabilities that support the company's vision of going further and designing new routes that deepen guests' connection with the wildest corners of Alaska. The ship features the innovative Ulstein X-BOW® hull for enhanced stability and comfort; dynamic positioning to help protect the delicate marine environment; and multiple Zodiac boat landing platforms that facilitate off-ship explorations. Expansive viewing areas offer exceptional views of wildlife and landscapes.
Accommodating 154 guests in thoughtfully designed staterooms—many with private balconies—the ship also features dedicated learning and wellness spaces that complement the brand's immersive expedition style. The three-year lease strengthens the company's ability to expand its itinerary portfolio and showcase even more of Alaska to guests, guided by crews intimately familiar with the region.
The upcoming Alaskan season will feature an exciting collection of iconic locations and experiences showcasing the region's spectacular wilderness. Trips will include time at the awe-inspiring Hubbard Glacier, North America's largest tidewater glacier, with excellent opportunities for Zodiac and kayak excursions, as well as journeys through the scenic Inside Passage via the Grenville and Princess Royal Waterways, ideal for small-boat exploration.
These routes add to the iconic experiences that have long defined Lindblad's Alaskan expeditions, such as Inian Islands, Misty Fjords, Endicott Arm and Tracy Arm, days of exploration in Southeast Alaska and exceptional wildlife viewing on every trip, led by our expert expedition team.
