The AmaMelodía, the second ship of the AmaWaterways in Colombia, officially began its navigation on the Magdalena River, marking a new chapter in the development of sustainable river tourism in Colombia.
On October 26, the ship set sail from La Bodeguita Pier in Cartagena, after completing its embarkation process. With a capacity for 64 passengers and a crew of 36, the AmaMelodía will offer a seven-night tour that combines history, culture, and nature along the country's main river.
The arrival of this vessel, specially designed to navigate the Magdalena River, solidifies Colombia's position as a luxury river cruise destination. This operation is supported by ProColombia, which has coordinated efforts with national, regional, and tourism sector authorities to make this pioneering project in South America possible.
“The Magdalena River is a symbol of national identity and a cornerstone of sustainable development. Seeing how river tourism is redefining it, connecting travelers with our traditions, landscapes, and communities, reflects the type of tourism we want to promote at ProColombia: responsible, inclusive, and transformative,” stated Carmen Caballero, president of the organization.
The AmaMelodía itinerary includes stops in municipalities of three departments: Palenque (Gambote), Calamar, Santa Bárbara de Pinto, Usiacurí, Mompox and Magangué, destinations that stand out for their cultural, historical and environmental richness.
The ship features 32 spacious cabins, each with French balconies and exterior views, ranging from 22 to 28 square meters and designed to maximize river views. Onboard, passengers will enjoy an immersive experience with local cuisine, traditional music, and guided shore excursions.
