The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), in collaboration with MSC Cruises, are launching the first edition of "All Aboard!", an educational project that aims to introduce 4th grade primary school students from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to the different professions that exist on board a cruise ship through dynamic and interactive sessions.
This initiative, which is free of charge and has the support of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society, Why Tenerife? and the Tenerife Island Council, consists of two activities that aim to increase schoolchildren's knowledge of cruise ship activity and encourage their creativity with a competition based on what they have learned.
On one hand, students will attend dynamic and interactive sessions, based on the role-play methodology, which will bring them closer to some of the more than 400 jobs that may exist on board.
Afterwards, they will participate in a creative competition designed to encourage students to reflect on the concepts learned during the activity and express them in a collaborative collage. The students will be required to use recycled materials to create their artwork, which contributes to promoting environmental sustainability and emphasizing the circular economy.
An international jury will be responsible for choosing the winning project. The class will visit an MSC Cruises ship during its stop in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 2026. They will also attend an exclusive day full of surprises, meeting a group of crew members who will share surprising details about their work on board.
Similarly, the cruise terminal at the Port of Tenerife will host an exhibition for a month featuring the six finalist works, highlighting the effort made by the students.
For the president of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority, Pedro Suárez López de Vergara, this new experience is “a unique opportunity for young people to discover the complexity and richness behind each port call. Introducing them to this world fosters values such as respect, curiosity, and teamwork, as well as sparking interest in maritime and port professions, which are essential for the port's development.”.
This program is free of charge. The registration period ends on November 7th.
