The Port of Malaga has received the first call of the Star Princess ship, from Princess Cruises, in an institutional event with the presence of local authorities, port representatives and media.
The event began with speeches by the captain of Star Princess, Gennaro Arma, and Esperanza González Pazos, CEO of the Malaga Provincial Council.
The ship's captain, with 27 years of experience at Princess Cruises and several awards for his professional leadership, welcomed the attendees aboard.
For his part, González Pazos emphasized the province's commitment to cruise tourism, highlighting that Malaga offers safety, connectivity, culture, gastronomy, sports and nature, and thanked the shipping companies for choosing the province.
Following the speeches, the traditional exchange of plaques took place between the captain and the representatives of the city and port, followed by a tour of the ship.
The Star Princess is the second ship in Princess Cruises' new Sphere , which combines modern comfort with classic sailing charm. Built by Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani in Italy, it runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), a cleaner energy source.
With a gross tonnage of 177,800 tons, a length of 345 meters, a beam of 42 meters, and a height of 60 meters, it can reach a maximum speed of 22 knots. It has 21 decks, capacity for 4,300 passengers and 1,600 crew members, distributed among 2,157 cabins, including 80 suites, 123 mini-suites, more than 1,000 cabins with balconies, 100 connecting rooms, and 51 accessible rooms.
Among its most outstanding spaces are:
- The Dome, an innovative space for relaxation and leisure with a glass roof.
- The Princess Arena, the company's most technologically advanced theater.
- The Piazza, a central architectural feature with floor-to-ceiling windows and sea views.
With this first stop, the Port of Malaga reaffirms its commitment to serving cruise ships and promoting tourism and the economy of the city and province, consolidating its position as a leading port in the western Mediterranean.
