Disney Cruise Line 's Disney Fantasy has entered dry dock at the Damen shipyard in Brest, France, after completing its first summer season in Europe. The ship is undergoing extensive refurbishment, including technical maintenance, regulatory inspections, and several interior upgrades, similar to those carried out last year on its sister ship, the Disney Dream.
Launched in Europe earlier this year, the Disney Fantasy, built in 2012, spent the summer operating a variety of seven- to twelve-night cruises from ports in Spain and Italy.
The itineraries included stops in the Greek Islands, Malta, France, and Spain. In July, the ship repositioned in Southampton for a late-summer program in Northern Europe, with cruises ranging from three to eight nights through the Norwegian fjords, northern France, and the British Isles.
After completing its latest voyage from the UK in early September, the vessel arrived in Brest for its scheduled dry-dock period.
Remodeling details
The modernization includes both technical work and interior renovations. Engineering teams are performing standard maintenance, hull inspections, and systems upgrades, while interior contractors are implementing new passenger features.
Confirmed changes include the introduction of Ramone's Cantina, a Cars-themed quick-service restaurant offering Mexican-inspired dishes; the relocation of Edge, the youth club for ages 11-14, to Deck 5; and the installation of a new Sorcerer Mickey-themed suite in the space previously occupied by Edge. The concierge lounge will also be redesigned with a Hercules-inspired aesthetic, while the Senses Spa will be renovated with upgrades to its treatment rooms and the Rainforest Room relaxation area.
The Disney Fantasy is scheduled to return to service on November 3, 2025, following its refurbishment. Afterward, the ship will make a transatlantic crossing to Port Canaveral, Florida, before beginning its winter season with three- to five-night cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. These itineraries will include regular visits to Disney's private destinations, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
Fleet modernization
The project is part of Disney Cruise Line's fleet modernization program, which continues alongside its fleet expansion. The next new ship, the Disney Destiny, sister ship to the Disney Wish, will enter service in November 2025. In the meantime, the Disney Dream now operates Mediterranean and Northern European itineraries, replacing the Disney Fantasy in the region for the foreseeable future.
