At the Seatrade Europe 2025 cruise fair held in Hamburg, Port Melilla, the new cruise destination of the Mexican group ITM Group, was presented.
The inauguration took place at the group's stand, which was specifically designed to highlight Melilla and its tourist attractions. Those in attendance included CEO Mauricio Hamui; Vice President Mariana Perrilliat of the ITM group; the Director of State Ports Operations, Pedro García; the President of the Port Authority, Manuel Ángel Quevedo, and its Director, Luis Ayala; and the Minister of Culture, Fadela Mohatar.
This inauguration, and its stand, is the culmination of the work carried out by the Port Authority during the last year to put Melilla at the epicenter of the cruise sector.
During the speeches, the president of the Port Authority of Melilla highlighted these attractions: the walled city from the 16th and 17th centuries, the modernist center, the beaches, the climate, but above all, the interculturality of the city, all within a five-minute walk from the dock.
Likewise, the Director of State Port Operations has shown the firm support of the organization for the project that will be developed in the Port.
The CEO of ITM Group emphasized that “Melilla is a gem, and we are going to help the world discover it.” He also expressed confidence in the city's ability to attract more than one hundred thousand cruise passengers in the near future.
This event marks the start of the group's operations in Melilla, where it was granted a 25-year concession in July 2025 to operate the loading dock at the Marina. The renovation of the premises and the new terminal are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.
