On July 12, government officials, community leaders, and local residents of Grand Bahama enjoyed an exclusive preview of Celebration Key, Carnival Cruise Line's newest exclusive destination.
This special event showcased the fun that Carnival guests can expect, while also highlighting the significant economic opportunities it will generate for the local community. The preview coincided with the embarkation of the Carnival Vista, which will make its first official visit to Celebration Key for its grand opening on July 19.
During the event, attendees explored the destination's main attractions, including its central Suncastle structure, racing water slides, and the largest freshwater lagoons in the Caribbean. Local officials also toured the five themed portals that will offer unique experiences to visitors, from total relaxation at the adults-only Pearl Cove Beach Club to family adventures at Starfish Lagoon.
The destination boasts over 30 dining options and bars, as well as a shopping village showcasing the work of local artisans.
“Celebration Key is a beautiful destination that I’m sure will be incredibly popular with our guests. But it’s also a testament to the excellent relationship between Carnival and the people of Grand Bahama. This is the first major project to be completed on the island in more than 20 years, and we’re proud to be the cruise line that made it happen,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
“We wouldn’t be here today, just one week after our first official visit with the Carnival Vista, without the dedication of hundreds of Bahamians who helped build Celebration Key. We are also proud of the hundreds of permanent jobs that have been created through the daily operations of this destination, generating significant economic benefits for the island while celebrating Bahamian culture.”
Duffy also welcomed passengers aboard the Carnival Vista at Port Canaveral that same day, where he made a special announcement for guests who will be participating in the inaugural visit to Celebration Key in one week. The opening ceremony will be streamed live on Carnival Cruise Line's Facebook page starting at 10:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, July 19.
Following its grand opening, Celebration Key will welcome 20 Carnival ships from ten U.S. homeports. This new destination is expected to attract around two million visitors in its first year of operation, generating significant revenue for the local economy.
