In February 2025, AIDA Cruises launched the largest fleet renewal program in its history, as part of the AIDA Evolution initiative.
AIDAdiva was the first ship to be completely modernized and refurbished with new features at the Chantier Naval shipyard in Marseille, France. Now, guests can enjoy even more variety, service, and comfort during their onboard vacation.
The AIDAluna will enter dry dock from October 22 to December 10, 2025, followed by the AIDAbella, which will do so from January 21 to March 11, 2026.
AIDA Cruises continues to modernize its fleet and has announced that the other four ships in this series will also be completely refurbished before 2028. Shipyard dates for AIDAblu, AIDAsol, AIDAmar, and AIDAstella are scheduled for spring and autumn, respectively, in the coming years.
“We are investing a triple-digit figure in millions of euros in this class of ships. This reaffirms our long-term commitment to our popular smaller ships. With this modernization, we are updating both onboard comfort and technology, ensuring that this generation of ships is ready for the next 20 years,” explained Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises.
AIDA Cruises will leverage the refurbishment of all ships in this series to give them an even more unified identity as a family of ships. In the future, they will be known as AIDAselection. This concept focuses on family connection and shared experiences, both onboard and ashore. The innovative design of these ships, with approximately 1,100 cabins, creates a welcoming atmosphere. Their numerous outdoor spaces and large windows provide a direct connection to the sea.
The central theater, the pool deck above it, and the open-plan layout are typical features of this generation of ships. With the AIDAselection ships, AIDA Cruises offers a wide range of itineraries: from short getaways to long-haul exotic destinations and even round-the-world cruises. On special routes, guests can enjoy unique experiences such as seeing the cherry blossoms in Japan, celebrating Carnival in Rio, or marveling at the Northern Lights in the far north. Thanks to their compact size, these ships can access smaller ports.
The AIDA Evolution initiative encompasses all the key projects for the responsible development and expansion of the AIDA fleet in the coming years. In addition to modernizing the existing fleet, it includes a multi-billion euro investment in two entirely new-generation ships.
These new, identical ships will be built by the Fincantieri shipyards in Italy and are scheduled to enter service in the spring of 2030 and the winter of 2031/2032, respectively. With these additions, AIDA's fleet will consist of 13 ships.
