As part of a plan initiated in 2021, the Costa Cruises fleet is undergoing a period of change. The Costa Fortuna, the oldest ship in service, will be retired from the Costa fleet in mid-September 2026, while all ships have been or are being upgraded to offer high-quality facilities and amenities with the latest product innovations, representing a total investment of over €200 million in the last five years.
This plan will be completed in November of this year, when the Costa Serena undergoes an extensive dry dock refurbishment, at the end of which the ship will emerge as a completely evolved vessel, with a new dining area featuring innovative restaurants and bars, such as the Archipelago restaurant run by Michelin-starred chefs, the Pummidoro Pizzeria and Sushino@Costa, as well as a fresh and modern design for the main restaurants, beautifully redesigned pools and bars, and completely renovated suites offering the ultimate in comfort and style.
Between October and December 2026, the Costa Serena will embark on extraordinary itineraries, including a global cruise from Tokyo to Buenos Aires, before positioning itself in South America for regular rotations in the winter of 2027. From spring 2027, the Costa Serena will offer voyages focused on the Mediterranean.

The strategic path we began a few years ago is strengthening our offering in our key markets with a portfolio of unique vacations.”
As part of a strategic focus on product innovation, the Costa Fortuna, the oldest ship in service, will be retired from the Costa fleet. The ship will be transferred to its new owner in mid-September 2026. Until then, guests will continue to enjoy the ship and receive the same incredible Costa experience they have come to expect, including the highly anticipated new programs to Greece and Turkey in summer 2025 and the Canary Islands in winter 2025/2026.
