AmaWaterways has christened its newest luxury river cruise ship, the AmaSintra, which has officially begun its maiden voyage along the Douro River in Portugal. The launch of this new vessel further strengthens AmaWaterways' presence in Europe, offering guests an elevated experience on one of the world's most iconic rivers.
With a capacity for only 102 guests, the AmaSintra showcases the best of the Douro region. The ship features 51 cabins, most with exterior balconies and large floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing guests to enjoy breathtaking views of the river from both their rooms and private balconies. Onboard, travelers can enjoy spacious common areas, including a rooftop pool, a fitness center, and a main restaurant serving regional cuisine inspired by the area, as well as international dishes.
During a special ceremony held in Porto on April 17, 2025, the AmaSintra was officially christened by Jenn Lee, president of Vacation Planners, who served as the ship's godmother. Also in attendance were Rudi Schreiner, co-founder and CEO of AmaWaterways, and Kristin Karst.

The AmaSintra will operate an immersive Douro River itinerary entitled Enticing Douro. This seven-night journey explores some of the most scenic and culturally rich regions of Portugal and Spain, offering unique opportunities to visit vineyards, enjoy regional wine tastings, and discover the charming cities of Porto, Régua, and Salamanca, with an optional three-night pre-cruise land program in Lisbon.
Joining its sister ships, the AmaDouro and the AmaVida (the latter sailing the Flavours of Portugal & Spain between Porto and Vega Terrón), the AmaSintra expands AmaWaterways' presence on the Douro and offers new opportunities to discover its rich cultural heritage.
