The World, Residences at Sea, the world's largest private residential ship, will undergo an extraordinary six-week dry dock at the Navantia shipyard in Cádiz, Spain. This multimillion-dollar transformation promises to elevate its unparalleled luxury lifestyle to new heights, combining cutting-edge innovation and refined elegance with world-class comfort.
As part of its commitment to maintaining and improving the onboard lifestyle, The World goes into dry dock every three years to carry out technological upgrades, routine maintenance, remodeling of public spaces according to the latest design trends and continue to guarantee the highest standards of quality of life on the seven seas.
Thanks to its rigorous maintenance process, The World recently received a report from Det Norske Veritas (DNV), a prestigious authority on maritime safety and sustainability. Following a comprehensive study, DNV will award The World an “Extended Life Declaration,” highlighting its commitment to the ship's sustainable longevity. Remarkably, the ship's physical condition is equivalent to that of a vessel only 5.6 years old, much younger than its chronological age, reaffirming its quality, efficiency, and long-term environmental responsibility.

Sustainability and emissions reduction
The 2025 dry dock will focus on energy efficiency and sustainability, ensuring that The World continues to meet and exceed global climate goals.
One of the most significant advancements is the installation of a shore power supply (cold ironing) using a High Voltage Grounding System (HVSC), which will allow the ship to shut down its generators while in port. This will reduce fuel consumption and emissions, complying with regulations in ports in California, Europe, and other regions that have implemented this technology.
The ship's bulbous bow will also be replaced as part of a decarbonization project. The new design will reduce hull drag by up to 10%, significantly decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, an innovative silicone coating will be applied to the hull, reducing hydrodynamic resistance and preventing marine growth, thus optimizing the ship's efficiency.
New air conditioning units and Fan Coil Units (FCUs) will be installed to improve cooling efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
Pool Deck Transformation
The Pool Bar & Grill on Deck 11 will be completely renovated with a larger bar, a refurbished kitchen, and a new grill. The area will also feature a pizza oven and pantry to offer a more refined dining experience and faster service.
The pool area will include a new jacuzzi, shower, cushions, curtains, signage and towel stations, becoming a modern and elegant oasis.
Spa & Wellness Center Renovation
The ship's 650 m² spa will also receive upgrades, including a Cold Plunge in the Aqua Spa, completing a thermal wellness circuit alongside the sauna and steam room. This treatment offers multiple benefits, such as reduced inflammation, improved circulation, mental clarity, and increased metabolism.
In addition, the beauty salon will be renovated with new flooring and a manicure station, and all treatment rooms will have heated floors for added comfort.
The following improvement works will be carried out:
- Golf enthusiasts will enjoy improvements to the putting green on Deck 12, which will offer more realistic turf and contours designed to simulate a traditional golf course.
- For indoor golf enthusiasts, the revamped golf simulator at The World Golf Club will allow players to play on more than 100 international courses, using high-speed camera technology to measure game data.
- The World will be adding a new 10-seater Zodiac Pro 850, ideal for exploring remote environments and observing wildlife up close. This highly maneuverable inflatable boat will be perfect for activities such as whale watching, exploring inaccessible coastlines, and excursions to exclusive locations.
- The dry dock will also include a complete overhaul of the elevators, in collaboration with Finnish experts from KONE, to improve their efficiency and reliability.
- In addition, some 50 private residences will be remodeled, with renovations including new flooring, furniture, cabinets and appliances in kitchens and bathrooms, as well as improvements to living areas.
From studios to spacious three-bedroom residences, every space on this floating paradise is designed for ultimate comfort and exploration.
