The Unicaja Foundation supports the commercial expansion of the shipping company Alma Cruceros by acquiring a 35% stake in its capital, thus becoming a strategic partner of the first Spanish boutique shipping company based in Malaga.
The general director of the Unicaja Foundation, Sergio Corral, and the president of Alma Cruceros, Elisardo Sánchez, have formalized the incorporation of the Foundation into the shipping company, which will begin operating in April with an inaugural cruise from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Malaga.
Alma Cruises will offer exclusive voyages designed for the Spanish-speaking community, visiting Andalusia, Ceuta, Melilla, the Spanish Mediterranean coast, the French Riviera, Corsica, Sardinia, and the Balearic Islands. The investment by Fundación Unicaja in the company marks a significant milestone, as it will allow Alma Cruises to accelerate its growth, expand its commercial operations into new markets, and enhance its capacity for innovation within the industry. This investment will also serve as the foundation for the order of Alma Cruises' second ship, which is scheduled to enter service in 2028.
The alliance between the Unicaja Foundation and Alma Cruises will contribute to strengthening the tourism and maritime sector, boosting job creation, economic development and the promotion of sustainable and socially responsible tourism.
The general manager of the Unicaja Foundation, Sergio Corral, highlighted that the institution's incorporation into Alma Cruceros "responds to the Foundation's interest in boosting the socio-economic development of our region by committing to a segment with high growth within the tourism industry and with the capacity to attract other related sectors.".
