Next Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Melilla will experience a veritable influx of cruise company executives, both national and international, to attend the prestigious Excellence Cruise Awards, which will take place at the Kursaal Theatre.
The organizing company, Cruises News Media Group, has confirmed that several international cruise line executives will be in attendance, as well as national executives, representatives from the entire Spanish port system, shipping agents, tour operators, travel agents, press, collaborators and other suppliers in the sector, in addition to professionals, businesspeople and authorities from the autonomous city of Melilla.
Taking advantage of the presence of cruise line executives, the city will offer them private tours to showcase Melilla's tourism potential and the initiatives underway to boost tourism in general and cruise tourism in particular.
These cruise industry awards will be the starting point of a historic year for the Port of Melilla, which will receive 22 port calls and has ambitious growth plans for the coming years.
The project to build a new cruise ship pier, capable of accommodating vessels up to 400 meters in length, is about to be launched, allowing the city to receive some of the world's largest cruise ships. This project will require an investment of 30 million euros and 18 months to complete.
This gala has been held since 2008. The winners of the Cruise Excellence Awards are chosen by cruise passengers and travel agencies through online voting, and the awards recognize everything from the best ships and onboard cuisine to the best itineraries and entertainment, in a total of 18 categories. This eighteenth edition of the Cruise Excellence Awards was promoted and sponsored by the City of Melilla, Melilla Tourism, the Port Authority of Melilla, and in collaboration with other public and private organizations such as State Ports and Lantimar Group.
