Silversea 's Andreas Nuessel expands his responsibilities as Peter Shanks announces his retirement. Andreas Nuessel, Managing Director of Silversea Europe, will take over responsibility for the UK, Ireland, Middle East, and Africa markets, while industry veteran Peter Shanks prepares to retire after 45 years in the travel sector.
Nuessel becomes managing director for the UK and EMEA and will appoint a dedicated managing director for the UK and Ireland, who will report directly to him.
Shanks has spent the last seven years of his career at Silversea and will step down from his role as managing director for the UK, Ireland, Middle East and Africa at the end of June, after working with Nuessel to ensure a “smooth transition”.
The president of the luxury cruise and expedition line, Bert Hernandez, paid tribute to Shanks' "invaluable contributions" to the brand and the industry as a whole, and also congratulated Nuessel on his promotion.
Nuessel has been in the industry for more than 25 years and first joined Silversea in 2012, before rejoining the brand as managing director for Europe in 2020. He will continue to report to Barbara Biffi, senior vice president of global sales.
