Fincantieri and Tui Cruises celebrated the delivery of the new Maltese-flagged vessel “Mein Schiff Relax” at the Monfalcone shipyard. This is the first of two new concept InTuition class dual-propulsion cruise ships that Fincantieri is building for the shipping company.
The award ceremony was attended by the Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, along with executives from Fincantieri and representing TUI Cruises were Wybcke Meier (CEO), Frank Kuhlmann (CFO) and Captain Tom Roth.
With almost 160,000 gross tons, the new ship will form the cornerstone of the Tui Cruises fleet, based on a new generation project developed by Fincantieri that enhances the modernity and sustainability of the shipowner, which has one of the most ecologically advanced fleets.
The InTUItion-class ships have been designed with an innovative focus on energy efficiency, aiming to reduce operating consumption and minimize environmental impact. Their ability to operate on LNG and, potentially, on bio-LNG or e-LNG in the future demonstrates a forward-looking vision for climate-neutral cruise tourism.
Just over three thousand people were involved in the construction of the "Mein Schiff Relax" vessel, which is equipped with catalytic converters (Euro 6 standard) and a turbine generator that utilizes the waste heat from the diesel generators, as well as an electrical connection system to the dock. All of this ensures virtually emission-free operation while in port.
The ship is also equipped with an innovative and efficient waste treatment system capable of transforming organic substances into recyclable components through a thermal process.
