On November 27th, an information session will be held at Alàbriga Hotel & Home Suites in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, where executives from the luxury cruise industry, yacht marina directors, shipping agents, and even a crew recruiter will discuss the economic, social, and environmental impact of this nautical tourism.
The 2024 cruise season closed this Sunday with 58 calls between the ports of Palamós and Roses, bringing 53,000 passengers and an economic impact of 5.1 million euros.
The event will begin with the participation of Ports de la Generalitat and the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, who will talk about the sustainability of the Costa Brava destination.
The cruise industry maintains an unequivocal commitment to complying with international environmental regulations and supporting policies and practices that promote a safe and sustainable economic and social impact.
Beatriz Orejudo, CEO & Managing Director of Lantimar Group, will explain how local procurement, waste management, and drinking water are handled on cruise ships. Following this, Carmen Fernández, General Manager of Crew MC, will provide key information for those aspiring to work on cruise ships.
The round table discussion on “Blue Economy and Sustainability in Cruises and the Destinations They Visit”will include directors and executives from Alma Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Crystal Cruises, and Intercruises, moderated by Virginia López Valiente, general manager of Cruises News Media Group.
During the summer, the Mediterranean is a major attraction for large yachts. The yachting sector is characterized by a high-spending tourist profile that visits the Catalan coast, drawn by the climate, scenery, cultural heritage, gastronomy, and wide range of leisure activities. The Costa Brava has the potential, infrastructure, and services necessary to cater to the yachting market.
A second round table will focus on “Blue Economy – economic impact and new employment opportunities in nautical activities”, moderated by Eva Miquel, managing partner of aWp Services, in which executives from D-Marin Spain, Club Nautico Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Marina Port Vell, Pendennis – Vilanova Grand Marina, Lantimar Group and Port Masnou will participate.
The experts participating in the panel on the nautical and large vessel industry will discuss trends in marinas and harbors, where sustainability has become a key focus. The commitment to premium marinas, incorporating innovation and digitalization, will be another topic of discussion, an area where yacht clubs and marinas on the Costa Brava are very well positioned.
Another discussion will focus on the opportunities for new jobs related to large vessels, as well as the importance of the auxiliary industry and its economic impact on the territory, with special emphasis on SMEs.
The day will be closed by Carles Motas i López, mayor of Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
