Cruise activity in Porto is growing in 2024

The first half of the year was also marked by 7 inaugural cruise ship calls out of the 19 planned, until the end of 2024.

Due to seasonality, the highest concentration of cruise activity was recorded in April and May. In those two months alone, the port received 45 ships that brought approximately 46,000 passengers to the region.

The majority of passengers who visited the Porto Cruise Terminal and the Porto and Northern Portugal Region came from the United Kingdom (36%), followed by Germany (29%) and the United States (23%).

The size of ships has also increased significantly in recent years. The gross tonnage (GT) of ships grew by 9% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

If current forecasts hold, the Porto Cruise Terminal could reach record figures again by the end of the year. 162 cruise ship calls are already scheduled at the port, and the number of cruise passengers is expected to exceed 150,000.
