The Celebrity Equinox celebrates 15 years of service

Celebrity Cruises ' second Solstice-class ship , the Celebrity Equinox, celebrates 15 years of service in July.

Following the Celebrity Solstice, built in 2008, this ship with a capacity for 2,850 passengers was built at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany.

The Equinox crossed the Ems River in late June and was officially delivered to Celebrity Cruises on July 16, 2009.

Almost two weeks later, a ceremony was held in the port of Southampton, England, to officially name the ship.

Nina Barough, CBE (Commander of the British Empire) and founder of the breast cancer charity “Walk the Walk”, was named godmother of the Celebrity Equinox at the ceremony on July 30, 2009.

The ship began its service the following day, embarking in Southampton for an eight-night cruise through the Norwegian fjords.

After this voyage, the Celebrity Equinox repositioned itself in the Mediterranean, where it spent most of its inaugural season.

Later, in 2009, the ship crossed the Atlantic for the first time to begin its inaugural winter season in the Caribbean.

In its 16th summer season, the Celebrity Equinox will return to the Mediterranean. After arriving in Europe earlier this year, it will offer nine- and ten-night itineraries from Spain and Italy.

In November, the ship will debut in Port Canaveral, marking a new Celebrity Cruises program from this Central Florida port.

The season will run until the end of April and will include a series of 20 cruises of three to seven nights to destinations such as the Bahamas, Belize, Grand Cayman, Mexico, San Juan and St. Martin.

After an additional summer program in the Mediterranean in 2025, the Equinox will debut in South America in the 2025-26 winter season.

The ship, which has been extensively renovated over the years, underwent a major modernization in 2019 as part of the Celebrity Revolution program.
