Viking 's new ship , the Viking Vesta, touched the water for the first time at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona on Friday, July 5.
The Viking Vesta's launch began on July 4 at approximately 11:00 am local time, marked by the cutting of a rope by the Viking team to allow water to flow into the ship's construction dock.
After a two-day process to launch the Viking Vesta, the vessel will be moved to a nearby dock for final construction and interior completion.
“It’s always a good day when a new ship meets the water for the first time,” said Torstein Hagen, president and CEO of Viking.
“Over the past decade, we have built the world’s most elegant small ocean-going vessels in partnership with Fincantieri. As we prepare to welcome the Viking Vesta next summer, as well as its identical sister ship, the Viking Vela, this fall, we look forward to introducing even more curious travelers to the Viking way of exploration.”
The Viking Vesta, scheduled for delivery in 2025, will enter service in July 2025, making itineraries around the Mediterranean and northern Europe.
