The luxury cruise ship Seven Seas Splendor, from the Regent Seven Seas and consigned by Marmedsa, arrived early this morning at the Port of Santander where it will remain until 9:00 p.m.
The ship, coming from Saint-Jean-de-Luz and bound for Gijón, brought with it 727 passengers, mostly Americans, British and Canadians, and 543 crew members.
A delegation from Santander Cruise Deluxe, headed by the president of the Port Authority of Santander, César Díaz, and which also included the director general of tourism of the Government of Cantabria, Gustavo Cubero , and the councilor for Institutional Relations, Innovation and Commerce of the Santander City Council, Álvaro Lavín Muriente, presented the captain of the Seven Seas Splendor, Felice Patruno, with a commemorative plaque and some books about Santander and Cantabria for him to enjoy in the onboard library, as a tribute to this first visit of the cruise ship to Santander.
The Seven Seas Splendor, measuring 224 meters in length and 31 meters in width, boasts 10 decks and 373 luxury suites. Its passengers will enjoy various excursions throughout Cantabria during the day, including destinations such as Santander, Comillas, Santillana del Mar, and the Altamira Caves.
Santander Cruise Deluxe
With the aim of boosting cruise tourism and organizing each of the stops that take place in the Port of Santander, the Port Authority, the Government of Cantabria and the City Council of Santander have created the Santander Cruise Deluxe brand.
Thus, as César Díaz, "to raise Cantabria's profile and position it as a cruise destination, thereby promoting year-round tourism." He added, "In addition to having a Maritime Station right in the city center, we offer a wide range of leisure options for our visitors, including cultural, gastronomic, and family-friendly activities. These are strengths we must capitalize on."
Santander Cruise Deluxe is carrying out a series of initiatives, including attending trade fairs, providing personalized service to itinerary makers , and implementing the recommendations of the Impact Study and Roadmap they have prepared, which aims to reach 90,000 cruise passengers by 2030 and a direct economic impact of up to 24.1 million.
Santander has 21 cruise ship calls scheduled for this year, compared to 16 in 2023.
