Barbara Muckermann will leave the Royal Caribbean Group after 14 years with Silversea
, and Bert Hernandez has been appointed President of Silversea, succeeding Muckermann.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Barbara since 2018, when Silversea joined the Royal Caribbean Group, first in her role as Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer and later as President of the Brand,” said Jason Liberty, Chairman and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group. “Barbara has helped position Silversea as the premier ultra-luxury expedition cruise line, and the brand has solidified its leadership with the official launch of Silver Nova earlier this year, a ship hailed as ushering in a new era of luxury at sea.”
“I would also like to congratulate Bert on his appointment as the next Chairman of Silversea,” Liberty added. “With his deep industry knowledge, experience in markets around the world, and previous leadership of a luxury cruise company, I know Bert is well positioned to chart a smart course for Silversea’s continued growth and success.”
Bert, who recently assumed the role of Senior Vice President of International, has been with the Royal Caribbean Group for 20 years and brings a wealth of commercial and operational experience to his position. He also served as President of Operations in China for Royal Caribbean International, where he transformed the brand into China's leading cruise line. Notably, he was Chief Operating Officer of the Group's former luxury cruise line, Azamara, achieving the line's most profitable year ever while part of the Royal Caribbean family of brands.
