Seattle-based Holland America has obtained Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certifications
These certifications are considered gold standards in the industry, highlighting Holland America Line's commitment to sustainability and quality in its Global Fresh Fish Program.
With these certifications, Holland America Line becomes the first global cruise line to guarantee that its seafood products are responsibly sourced and raised, meeting the most demanding standards worldwide.

Holland America Line's program will include MSC and ASC-certified products on most of its 11 ships in the fleet, with full rollout scheduled to begin in May 2024. This approach reaffirms the company's commitment to cuisine and customer satisfaction, while driving sustainable practices across the cruise industry.

The Marine Stewardship Council focuses on sustainable, wild-caught seafood, while the Aquaculture Stewardship Council works with responsibly farmed seafood, and both organizations try to minimize environmental impact.
Adherence to both ecolabels signifies Holland America Line's commitment to programs that recognize and reward sustainable fishing practices, protect the ocean environment, and transform the seafood market towards greater sustainability.
“As the first global cruise line to successfully complete the Marine Stewardship Council’s rigorous Chain of Custody audit, Holland America Line is extending our important work around sustainable and ocean-friendly fishing to a new level,” said Erika Feller, Americas Director of the Marine Stewardship Council.
“Consumer interest in sustainable fish options is growing, and by making this commitment, Holland America Line is helping to support our goal of ensuring a supply of responsibly farmed seafood for future generations,” said Chris Niennes, CEO, Aquaculture Stewardship Council.
All 11 ships in the fleet are Chain of Custody certified to serve seafood products certified and labeled by the Marine Stewardship Council and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council, and the full rollout will begin on five Holland America Line ships in May 2024, at the start of the Europe and Canada/New England season.
