Construction of the dock in Melilla is scheduled to begin in early 2027, according to the president of the Port Authority, Manuel Ángel Quevedo.
The project involves several stages, beginning with a topographic survey of the seabed, followed by the awarding of a contract for a comprehensive geotechnical study of the port to determine the dredging material and the conditions of the fill. The project is expected to be completed by autumn, allowing for negotiations and the submission of proposals for financing the work.
The aim is to finance the project through a collaboration between State Ports, the Autonomous City, and the future operator of the cruise ship terminal. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2025 and last approximately eighteen months, concluding in early 2027.
Furthermore, a restructuring of the marina's dry dock is planned to provide services to cruise ship passengers, including the creation of direct access areas to San Lorenzo beach and the installation of hospitality establishments. This project aligns with Melilla's efforts to develop its tourism industry as part of a new economic model.
