In 2023, the Porto Cruise Terminal (Port of Leixões) received a total of 116 cruise ship calls, attracting 148,889 passengers to the Porto Region and Northern Portugal, making it the busiest year to date for the terminal.
The number of passengers represented a 37% increase compared to the previous year. The majority of visitors came from the United Kingdom (44.1%), the United States (23.2%), and Germany (17.9%).
The size of the ships also increased, with the number of GT (a measure of ship capacity that quantifies the volume of all interior spaces of the ship) reaching 6.9 million, up 12% from the previous year.
The busiest months were May, September and October, the latter setting a historic record at the terminal.
The success of 2023 reflects the continued growth and preference of cruise lines and cruise passengers from around the world for the Porto Terminal, having a major impact on tourism in the Porto Region and Northern Portugal.
