Silversea officially named Silver Nova during an intimate ceremony in Fort Lauderdale on January 4, following maritime traditions to welcome the "ship of light" to its fleet.

SILVER NOVA NAMING CEREMONY
Bagpipes, as is customary for the Royal Caribbean Group, sounded in the Silver Nova to mark the start of the ceremony. This was followed by a performance of the U.S. national anthem by Rachel York, as well as an exclusive screening of a commemorative video for Silversea's 30th anniversary, which the brand will celebrate in 2024.
Reverend Sanford Sears and Rabbi Adam Watstein blessed the Silver Nova. Barbara Muckermann, president of Silversea, and Jason Liberty, president and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group, addressed members of the brand family and announced the ship's godmother: chef, restaurateur, and television personality Nina Compton.
Compton, accompanied by Captain Cosimo Pontillo, officially named the Silver Nova and caused a magnum bottle of champagne to smash against the ship's hull, before Liberty led the guests in a toast to seal the occasion.

“After years of research, development and close collaboration, we are all incredibly proud to officially welcome Silver Nova to Royal Caribbean Group, which now operates a fleet of 65 ships,” said Jason Liberty.
“I congratulate Barbara on her first ship appointment as President of Silversea and am honored to welcome Nina Compton, a champion of cultural discovery, to the family. Simply put, Silver Nova marks a turning point and embodies our shared vision for the ultra-luxury market. More than just the vacation of a lifetime, we are delivering a lifetime of vacations to our guests across our three global brands, and we will continue to push the boundaries in 2024”.
“It is fitting that we have officially named the Silver Nova, a truly pioneering ship, in the same year that Silversea celebrates its 30th anniversary: the ship connects our history with our future, striking a perfect balance between our brand’s refined heritage and the future of ultra-luxury cruise travel,” said Barbara Muckermann.
“Launching this pioneering ship would not have been possible without the invaluable support of Jason Liberty and everyone involved at Royal Caribbean Group, Silversea, and Meyer Werft. A powerful expression of our market position, the Silver Nova will immerse guests in the world’s most enriching destinations, fostering human connection and cultural discovery.”.
“For this reason, Chef Nina Compton is the perfect godmother for the ship: her values align perfectly with those at the heart of our SALT culinary program, and I have no doubt that she will inspire our guests to engage meaningfully with the planet and its people”.
Nina Compton
Born in St. Lucia, a resident of New Orleans, and trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Nina Compton is an award-winning chef, restaurateur, and television personality. Her values of human connection, cultural discovery, and honoring heritage, tradition, and identity align perfectly with those of Silversea's culinary program, SALT.
Owner of two restaurants in New Orleans, Compton is a prominent practitioner and advocate of Caribbean gastronomy and was named Culinary Ambassador of her native country, Saint Lucia, where her father was the island nation's first prime minister.
“I am honored to have been named godmother of the Silver Nova,” added Nina Compton. “Throughout my life, I have explored the many ways in which the cuisines of the world, especially that of my native nation of Saint Lucia, and more broadly the Caribbean, strengthen human connections, facilitate cultural discovery, and honor heritage, tradition, and identity.
“I believe that food and drink have the power to bring people together, providing insight into a community’s customs as a unifying language. I hope my journey inspires Silver Nova guests to connect meaningfully with the destinations they visit and their people, forging strong relationships, broadening horizons, and providing personal enrichment.””.
SILVER NOVA
The Silver Nova introduces a new vision of luxury at sea. Its innovative design immerses guests in the destination from every room and suite, with expansive views in every direction.
Its pool deck, which juts out over the water on its starboard side, and its new outdoor spaces (the Dusk Bar and the Marquee) best exemplify its openness to the destination.
It offers one of the most personalized service levels at sea, with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.3, including butler service for all suites. It accommodates up to 728 guests in 13 different suite categories. Each suite offers guests the use of a private balcony.
The Silver Nova departed on its maiden voyage from Venice on August 14, 2023. Following its naming ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, it will now embark on its first Grand Voyage, The Grand Voyage South America 2024, during which it will circumnavigate the continent, visiting 38 destinations in 18 countries over 71 days.
