Carnival Jubilee arrived in Galveston, Texas, yesterday ahead of its maiden voyage scheduled to depart on December 23.
The ship was greeted with a water salute as it docked at Terminal 25 of the Galveston docks for the first time on Wednesday, December 20.
“The Texas star on our bow is not just an ornament, it is a symbol of our gratitude to our customers who sail from Texas and have made us the number one cruise line in Galveston, and of our commitment to the future of cruising from this great city and state,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
“When we cut the ribbon to welcome our first guests on this ship this weekend, we'll be celebrating the start of a new era of operations here“.
The Carnival Jubilee will also introduce the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Galveston, and improvements were made to the port to accommodate the use of LNG.
Before the ship's arrival, the port invited the public to put on cowboy hats and welcome the Carnival Jubilee.
“This is the first new ship to dock in Galveston since we became a cruise homeport 23 years ago,” said Port Director Rodger Rees. “We hope for a large turnout for this historic event so the Jubilee crew and Carnival staff can see how pleased we are to welcome this beautiful ship.”
The Carnival Jubilee will embark on its inaugural seven-day cruise through the Western Caribbean, visiting Mahogany Bay, as well as Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico).
